Management on the Valaris rig JU-123 have contracted Geo Therm Ltd to provide its annual IRT survey need, penned to start early November 2020.

Built at the Keppel Fells shipyard in Singapore the Valaris 123 is a three-legged independent cantilever mobile offshore drilling unit that has been in service since 2019.  It is the newest jack-up rig in the Valaris fleet. The requirement is for Geo Therm Ltd to perform a thermographic (IRT) survey to identify high resistance hot-spots in its rig-wide electrical systems, to effectively detect early signs of equipment failure before a breakdown occurs.

The rig is a series super “A” class designed ultra-premium harsh environment rig, with an International Maritime Organisation (IMO) number: 9721396 and ABS Class: ABS-A1-MODU. The rig can operate in waters to 450ft deep and drill to depths of 35,00ft.  The scope of works will be completed offshore Aberdeen.
