Diamond Offshore Drilling UK Ltd  (DODI) has confirmed Geo Therm Ltd’s IRT inspection services for the Ocean Great White rig,  the world’s largest semi-submersible rig. The Great White can work in ultra-deepwater / harsh environments, and intended to begin working in the UKCS in January 2019 after visiting the Kishorn Port, Scotland.  The rig is capable of operating in waters up to 3 km deep and drilling down to a depth of 10km from the sea surface.

The IRT inspection is penned for early Jan 2019.  The inspection is our first on this new 6th Generation DNV Class rig, delivered by South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries in July 2016.  The rig is expected to be in UK waters to July 2019 to complete 3 wells, with the option for another 3 for Siccar Point Engery.   The IRT inspection is used to comply with the DODI’s electrical PM requirement, as directed in the company’s GEMS management document.  The electrical thermographic  inspection is estimated to take eight days to complete.
