PPE stands for ‘personal protective equipment.’ Its use is essential in all our day to day activities, and especially essential when working alongside high voltage switchgear, since poorly maintained electrical equipment can be prone to arc flash explosions, where light and heat produced from an electric arc supplied with sufficient electrical energy to cause substantial damage, harm, fire, injury and potentially cause fatalities. Hence appropriate PPE is essential to protect the user against health or safety risks at work, and necessary to meet the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992.
Geo Therm Ltd actively promotes safety and the use of PPE in the workplace, by providing our surveying technicians with the most advance and most relevant PPE attire to complete the job with the highest safety factor. Using anything sub-standard can lead to a false sense of security and likely lead to injury. We are often told accidents are preventable, however should anything untoward occur you need to be protected, this means providing the right PPE to meet the demands of the job. PPE worn by our surveyors include: 1000V rubber insulated gloves, dielectric boots, high impact safety gloves for general use, full arc flash rated face shield protection rated to 12 cal meeting the NFPA 70E requirements, arc flash balaclava, safety glasses, hard hat, custom moulded hearing protection and whenever necessary donning a high voltage arc flash suit rated to a 40 cal and worn over the top of our arc flash and static resistant coveralls.
Following our detailed procedures, technical know-how, knowing site emergency contact numbers, escape routes, a knowledge of first aid, use of safety and fire fighting apparatus and wearing of suitable PPE all help to reinforce an enhanced safety culture within Geo Therm Ltd’s workforce, to compliment those high demands required by the client.
