Offshore, Thermal Imaging

We are pleased to confirm the recent completion of the electrical biased offshore thermographic survey onboard the Blackford Dolphin, a 5th generation Aker H-3 propulsion assisted offshore semi-submersible drilling rig, owned by Dolphin Drilling Ltd. (Dolphin Drilling is the offshore drilling contracting arm of Fred. Olsen Energy ASA). The survey took place whist the rig was drilling for Chevron in the North Sea some 120NM north-east of Aberdeen, in the Alder Field.

Geo Therm Ltd last performed the thermographic survey in 2009 when the rig was working off the Ghanaian coast (West Africa) before its long term deployment off the Brazilian coastline. With its return into UK waters the Dolphin Blackford had an extensive enhancement program at the Harland and Wolf yard Belfast, and now benefits from a new 130 man accommodation block, new power generation module, mud room and additional buoyancy needs for the DNV conversion.

The rig has an IMO number: 8753122 and originally built by Nylands Mek Verksted in Oslo, Norway and is now capable of drilling to depths of 30,000ft at a water depth of 7,000ft. Dolphin Drilling has a long and successful drilling track record, serving major, independent and national O&G companies worldwide; with a combined rig fleet of 10 vessels comprised of semi-submersibles and drill ships capable at meeting all deep and mid water drilling needs. Dolphin Drilling is one of Geo Therm Ltd’s longest serving clients.
