The management on the West Saturn a 6th generation drillship, built at Samsung Heavy Industries in Geoje, South Korea (and delivered to Seadrill in September 2014) has awarded Geo Therm Ltd with its first Infrared (IR) Thermographic & High Voltage Partial Discharge (HVPD) survey. These electrical biased surveys are to start in early May 2015 and play a major part in the vessel’s PM inventory.

The West Saturn drillship has an ABS classification and an IMO #9657428; the vessel is capable of handling two BOP’s, able to operating in up to 12,000 ft. of water and drill to depths up to 40,000 ft. The vessel is currently working for ExxonMobil in support of the ERHA North Phase 2 project, some 90NM south-east from Lagos Nigeria, working in water depths ranging from 1,000m to 1,200m.

The West Saturn drilling contract has an initial term of two years with a one-year extension option. The total revenue potential is estimated at about $497 million. The West Saturn is Seadrill’s third drillship operating in Nigerian waters, (within the Gulf of Guinea) working alongside the West Jupiter and West Capella.
