Offshore, Thermal Imaging

We are pleased to inform you that the management from Dolphin Drilling Ltd has contracted Geo Therm Ltd to perform our noted offshore Thermographic Surveys on their semi-submersible rig the Byford Dolphin. The survey has just been completed, surveying rig wide electrical distribution systems and main engines.

The Byford Dolphin is a 2nd generation, enhanced Aker H-3 offshore semi-submersible drilling rig, with a DNV + 1A1, GL class, Column Stabilised Drilling Unit Classification, IMO# 8750584.

The rig was built by Aker Group at Aker Verdal shipyard, Norway and recently underwent a multi-million pound upgrade program at the Harland and Wolf shipyard in Belfast. Improvements that included two new columns and four buoyancy boxes for stability and deck load space, fitting of a new larger BOP and control house and new drill string handling equipment, furthermore, maintenance and refurbishment work for piping, steelwork, anodes, drill equipment, electrical and propulsion machinery and accommodation improvement and for our benefit the fitting of infrared inspection windows into the HV switchgear.

The Byford Dolphin has the ability to drill to depths of 20,000ft with a rated water depth of 1,500ft and is currently drilling for the oil and gas major BP in the UKCS, 140NM due west of Aberdeen. This is the third thermal imaging survey Geo Therm Ltd has performed on the Byford Dolphin.
